Four new volunteers joined today, so Tasha and I went back to our first panda, Jin Ke. The keeper gave him some bamboo while we cleaned the outside enclosure. I love how he sits with his feet poking through the bars. It's been interesting to toggle between 4 different pandas because they all have different personalities.
During the first feed (snack), I was able to stroke his foot. I just wanted to know what their fur felt like. He was pretty wet but his fur felt more like straw. I still like to believe they have a fuzzy head...
I brought my "Sharon is Karen" shirt that I got from Dave, shout out to Baron Press. I told him earlier in the trip that I was wearing it and Sarah (from Germany) really liked it. I was asking if there were any left to purchase. He replied and included "Pics or it didn't happen" which inevitably led to my mission this week... get a pic of me in the shirt with a panda.
I asked Tasha to take the pic at our second feeding and let's just say i got a little too close for comfort and Tasha got it all in the pics. I didn't give him the panda bread first because Jin Ke is notorious for leaning back, aka no photo. So I got close and Tasha started taking pics. Jin Ke obviously thought having his panda bread was way more important than my photo and reached through the bars and grabbed my pants. Luckily, I remained calm and was able to get my pants free but I have a little claw hole as a reminder. For a moment I did think he might rip my pants off.
Kindergarten watching during the break to regroup.
Stella came to our third feeding to take pics of us feeding him and you can see in my face how nervous I was to not be looking at him. Reminder: Jin Ke was rescued from the wild.
Mahjong was after dinner and it was so much fun. Memaw always played with her friends and I just wish I would have had the chance to play with her. We played for 2 hours and it felt like 15 minutes. I won twice so I know I did her proud!
